Sports Premium

Sport Premium Overview

St Minver Primary School

At St Minver School we believe PE & Sport plays an important role in making success and participation a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.

We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for 2 years to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.

Sport Premium Grant

Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January 2013. All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. Smaller schools will receive £500 per pupil.

Total amount of Sport Premium Grant received £9.050

What does the Sport Premium mean for my School?

‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).

At St Minver School we have split up the funding by the three key areas for consideration; Physical Education, Healthy Active Lifestyles and Competitive Sport. We have decided to spend the Sport Premium Grant on the following:

Additional High quality sports teaching for our pupils. Providing our pupils with high quality, first access to sport by employing a dedicated teacher of sport. – Cost to school £11, 552

Additional sports coaching for our more able pupils, as well as additional after school provision and coaching for local inter-schools competitions. – Sports Coaches - £15,304

A minibus to enable more of our pupils to be able to access local competitions and clubs - £4000

Impact. We can measure the impact of our sporting achievements through our achievements, our uptake and our parental feedback.

Over the last year St Minver School has achieved highly in a number of local sporting events. We won the North Cornwall netball championships and went on to be runners up at County Level.

Our athletes won the local schools cross country, cycling  and triathlon events.

We were runners up in the swimming gala

We also completed in the tag rugby tournament and the  Key stage 1 multi skills festival.

Uptake of sporting clubs has been much higher this year. We currently have over 75 children taking part in after school sporting activities such as football, rugby, running, netball and cycling.

Feedback from parents has also been very positive with regard to sport provision.

Sustainability

The school is ensuring that this development is sustainable by providing high quality CPD and partnership work within the local sports cluster.
